Opportunity knocks

Sometimes opportunity knocks at unexpected moments. Upon journeying back from a walk on Dartmoor with my parents, I looked out of the front passenger window of my Dad’s car to see a delightful burst of transient light.

Unfortunately we were unable to stop as I had to be back in Totnes imminently to pick my kids up from school, lucky for me though that my camera bag was in the front seat...

An idea very quickly hatched to try and make a panned landscape photo (a.k.a. ‘Intentional Camera Movement’) of this great ephemeral light. With a combination of a 2 stop ND Graduated filter / a circular polarizer and a tiny aperture of f/32 the image below came to be.

'Ephemeral Epoch' - transient light  falling upon Bonehill Down and Haytor Down beyond

Cars it seems can be a useful aid to landscape photography.
